Rabbi Minster's Installation Weekend

Kabbalat Shabbat, Installation, and Oneg
Friday, May 19th, 7:30pm
Join us to welcome our new spiritual leader to Temple Israel of Alameda. Rabbi Cynthia Minster will lead the Kabbalat Shabbat Service. Her mentor and Vice President of the Academy of Jewish Religion California, Rabbi Rochelle Robins, will lead us in consecrating our partnership, our community, and our synagogue. A festive Oneg sponsored by the Board of Directors and featuring desserts made by Phyllis Minster will follow.

Rabbi Rochelle Robins serves as Vice President of The Academy for Jewish Religion, California, and Dean of its Chaplaincy School. Rabbi Rochelle Robins is also the Director of the school’s Clinical Pastoral Education program. She earned her smicha at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in 1998. Among other positions, Rochelle has served as the rabbinic Staff Chaplain at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and the Supervisor of Pastoral Education and Co-coordinator of the Jewish Hospice Program at Samaritan Hospice of Southern New Jersey. She is a Certified Educator of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE, Inc.), and a Neshama/NAJC Board Certified Chaplain. Rabbi Robins was the co-founder and Executive Director of Bat Kol, an organization that began as Jerusalem’s first feminist yeshiva, and then expanded its mission to include interfaith coalition building and health care education in the United States. For her imagination with Bat Kol, Rabbi Robins was recognized for her work in socially conscious entrepreneurial endeavors in Joshua Venture's first cohort (which is now UpStart). Rochelle invites you to explore her newly developed social services and chaplaincy software system at www.ezzree.com, where she and her business partner aim to provide easy and affordable access to professional human support.  Whether Rabbi Robins is teaching text, publishing writings on Jewish spiritual care and a variety of topics, educating chaplains, or administering social entrepreneurial projects - healing and wholeness are at the heart of her rabbinate. Rochelle is currently a PhD candidate in Biblical Studies at Greenwich School of Theology in the U.K., which is in collaboration with the Theological University of Apeldoorn in the Netherlands.

Torah Study on Zoom Only
Saturday, May 20th, 9:30am
Join us in studying Parashat Bamidbar, a fitting portion for our celebratory weekend. The beginning of the Book of Numbers describes a census and the formation of the Israelite tribes on their journey through the wilderness. It is also the 44th day of the Counting of the Omer, Din ShebeMalchut, Gevurah ShebeShekhinah, the Judgment of the Sovereignty of the Divine, the Strength of the Divine Presence. We will reflect on the boundaries the hold us together and the ways in which we help unfold our potential selves and our community's potential.  Studying from both our Torah portion and our ethical / spiritual journey from Passover towards Shavuot, together we will prepare ourselves for the future. Zoom registration is required to participate.
